\n\nChosen by film club members through online and in-person polls as our film for January, this 1990 film from master filmmaker Akira Kurosawa consists of 8 vignettes inspired by his actual dreams. Introspection, social commentary, and traditional Japanese folklore all play a part in this late-entry in Kurosawa’s career (he began writing the screenplay when he was nearly 80 years old). A surreal, nonlinear, brightly-colored journey through the subconscious of a great auteur of cinema–what could be grander? Plus, Martin Scorsese pops up to play Vincent van Gogh!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
