Osaka is the second largest metropolitan area in Japan and known for its distinct culture. The contrast between Tokyo and Osaka is always a hot topic. The stereotype says Tokyo is serious and Osaka is funny. In fact, Osaka is recognized as a \u201ccomedy city\u201d and many comedians are from Osaka.
Osaka comedians use their own dialect \u201cOsaka-ben\u201d in their performance. That is why Osaka-ben is widely known among all Japanese people.
Manzai is a traditional Japanese style of stand-up comedy. Manzai usually involves two performers: Boke (funny man) & Tsukkomi (straight man).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Masaki, Osaka-native, will present basics of Osaka-ben and Manzai.

Then, we will watch Manzai with English subtitle performed by Downtown, the most popular Manzai duo from Osaka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
