5:30 PM to 8:30 PM
The Encorepreneur Cafe
1548 NE 15th Ave. Portland
This is a meetup for people interested in watching Japanese films and learning about Japanese culture. This time, we will watch Hirokazu Kore-eda’s After Life (subtitled in English). Erin and Masaki will discuss the cultural context of the film beforehand and give club members some things to look out for while watching the movie. Afterwards, we will have a short discussion about what we saw.
Film Description
From the director of Shoplifters, this 1998 film takes place at a way station for the recently deceased, where they must choose their most precious memory. That moment is then turned into a movie that they watch before passing on to whatever lies beyond, taking only that one memory with them. An inventive story without a lot of fluff, it asks us to consider the best and happiest moments of our lives.
