December Shodo + Japanese Language Celebration
Join us for a special session in December:
-Japanese Language Exchange
-Create New Year’s Cards with Calligraphy
We will make 年賀状(Nengajo) – Japanese New Year’s greeting card – together. We will write with “chopstick pen” and paint with “watercolor pencils”.
No experience is required. Beginners are welcome. You will learn basic knowledge and techniques in relaxing and friendly atmosphere. We can provide tools and materials.
We will also have a short Japanese Cultural Presentation:
– Japan’s New Year’s custom (お正月の習慣)
– History and Basics of Nengajo.
– What is your Eto? Characteristics of each animal.
干支(Eto) is Japanese Zodiac. Nengajo generally has a picture of Year’s Animal. The animal in 2020 will be a “mouse”. However, you can write and paint anything you like.
Let’s enjoy making nengajo with friendly conversation!
Shodo teacher: Yukashi Sano – Illustrator and designer
She was born and raised in Shizuoka, the foot of Mt. Fuji. She has loved painting since she was little. She has also studied shodo for a decade. Uniting her illustration and shodo, she has designed Japanese company trademarks. She teaches drawing and calligraphy both within and outside Japan. Her motto is everyone can enjoy drawing letters and pictures no matter what skill levels regardless of age and gender.
