5:30 PM to 8:30 PM
The Encorepreneur Cafe
1548 NE 15th Ave. Portland
About this event
Come on by this free meetup, where we will watch Akira Kurosawa’s 1958 jidaigeki adventure epic, Hidden Fortress (subtitled in English). Erin and Masaki will discuss the cultural context of the film beforehand and give club members some things to look out for while watching the movie.
Here is the epic tale of Princess Yuki Akizuki and Makabe Rokurōta, two members of the defeated Akizuki clan, and their quest to escort the family riches to safety. An admitted influence on George Lucas’s Star Wars, this story is told from the perspective of two raggedy peasants who get caught up in the action. Highly entertaining and visually stunning, Hidden Fortress is among Kurosawa’s most beloved films.

About this club
For the first couple of films, we want to choose those that demonstrate different aspects of Japanese culture. The Encorepreneur Cafe is a co-working space that is owned by a Japanese company. We are currently working on some new programs to share our Japanese culture with the public, so we started this film club as one way to do that.
