5:30 PM to 8:30 PM
The Encorepreneur Cafe
1548 NE 15th Ave. Portland
About this event
Come on by for our second film club meeting, where we will screen Juzo Itami’s zany 1985 comedy, Tampopo (subtitled in English). Erin and Masaki will discuss the cultural context of the film beforehand and give club members some things to look out for while watching the movie.
Convinced by a couple of truck drivers who stop at her roadside ramen shop, Tampopo is on a mission to improve her so-so ramen and embrace the fine art of noodle-making. About so much more than ramen, this has been called one of the best food movies of all time by the website Eater. Although, yes, Tampopo is a fantastic food movie and was a trailblazer of its time, it also stands on its own in terms of genre and style.

We’ll use our projector and screen for watching the film. This is a free event.

About this club
For the first couple of films, we want to choose those that demonstrate different aspects of Japanese culture. We’re hosting this one on a Wednesday evening, we’ll see how many people show up and adjust days/time if needed for future events. The Encorepreneur Cafe is a co-working space that is owned by a Japanese company. We are currently working on some new programs to share our Japanese culture with the public, so we started this film club as one way to do that.
